Fanny Nemeth-Weiss, winner of numerous solo and chamber music competitions,scholarships and fellowships in Europe and United States. She studied at the Manhattan School of Music New York City and at the Catholic University of America, Washington D.C. She made her Carnegie Hall Weill Recital Hall debut in 2008, and performed solo and chamber music recitals in Europe and the USA. She has been an active participant of prestigious festivals and masterclasses. She has been te teaching assistant of the string department since Fall 2012 at the Catholic University of America and recently working on her Doctorate of Music Degree at CUA.

Martin Labazevitch, studied at the Odessa State Conservatory in Ukraine and The Manhattan School of Music, New York City.He has appeared on numerous concert stages and festivals in Europe, Israel, Japan, South Korea and the United States. He is a recipient of diplomas and recognitions at many international piano competitions, as well as numerous prizes and awards in Israel and the USA. He was featured as a soloist with orchestras in Spain,Poland,United States, Lithuania and Japan.He is pursuing his doctoral degree at the Catholic University of America Washington D.C.
Russian-American violinist, Artur Kaganovskiy is a graduate of The Juilliard School New York City. He was mentored by famous Isaac Stern. Winner of the Waldo de Mayo International Violin Competition and recipient of the prestigious Fritz Kreisler, H. Gilbert and Joseph Fuchs scholarships. Mr. Kaganovskiy made his Carnegie Hall debut in 2007 with members of the New York Philharmonic and the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra.

Eszter Szilveszter is a current member of the Neos String Quartet and Forte Duo in New York City. She holds a Performance Certificate from DePaul University, Chicago; Masters Degree from Western Illinois University, IL and Bachelors Degree from the Gheorghe Dima Music Academy at Cluj-Napoca, Romania.Her chamber and orchestral appearences has taken her among other major orchestra Halls in Europe and in the USA such as the Berlin Philharmonic, Hall,Chicago Symphony Center, Zankel Hall and Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie.

The Hungarian community of the Washington Metropolitan Area, holds a historically significant position in Hungarian immigration for its ability to represent Hungary’s interests, because of its proximity to the Capital. We can follow growing political and cultural activities since the mid 19th century, when Lajos Kossuth lobbied for Hungary’s independence.
The expanding number of Catholic Hungarians in the region created a spiritual need to practice religion in their native language. Monthly masses have been held regularly and continuously in Washington, D.C. since the early 1950s.
In the spirit of ecumenism, the Saint Stephen of Hungary Catholic Community built a mutually respectful and cooperative relationship with the local Hungarian Reformed Church.
Plans are firming up to consecrate a Hungarian National Chapel at the Basilica of the National Shrine. This much anticipated new milestone will present a new spiritual home to Hungarian Catholics in the region as well as all over the world.
==============================Változás: Martin D.Holley püspök úr irodája néhány napja közölte velünk, hogy előre nem látott családi körülmény miatt a püspök úrnak nem áll módjában augusztusi szentmisénkre floridai otthonából Washingtonba visszatérni, így a szentmisét a szokásos módon Ágoston atya celebrálja.
Martin D. Holley, a washingtoni érsekség segédpüspöke 1954-ben, Floridában született, Sylvester és Elizabeth Holley 14 gyermeke közül nyolcadikként. Alapfokú tanulmányait követően, az Alabama Állami Egyetem Management-szakát végezte el, majd a West Florida Egyetem Business-szakán tanult tovább, miközben az egyetem csapatában kosárlabdázott. Holley püspök úr immár papi hivatására készülve – a washingtoni Theological College, majd a loridai St. Vincent de Paul Szeminárium növendéke volt, ahol 1987 május 8-án pappá szentelték. Papi szolgálatát Floridában kezdte. 2004-ben II.János Pál pápa nevezte ki Washington segédpüspökévé, amely feladatra 2004-ben, a Szt. Máté Katedrálisban szentelték fel.Holley püspök úr az Egyesült Államok Katolikus Püspöki Konferenciájának több bizottságában is aktív. Ilyenek például az Életvédelem, Kulturális Sokféleség, Afrikai-Amerikai Katolikusok, Katolikus Segélyszolgálat, Gyermekek és Fiatalok bizottságai. Püspök úr vezetőségi tagja a regionális Katolikus Konferenciának, Maryland Katolikus Konferenciájának, a Püspökség Katolikus Segélyszolgálatának, a Nemzetközi Katolikus Alap a Süketek Szolgálatában szervezetnek, a Katolikus Sportolók Krisztusért egyesületnek.Mint a Washingtoni Püspökség Vicar General-ja, Holley püspök úr a Tanácsadói Kollégium, a Presbiteri Tanács, a Szemináriumi Felügyelő Bizottság, az Adminisztrációs Bizottság tagja, és a Dékáni Kollégium Co-Vicár-ja.Megtiszteltetés számunkra, hogy az idei Szt. Most vasárnap, mi, akik jelen voltunk a Szeplőtelen Fogantatás Bazilika altemplomában – talán nem túlzás azt mondani, hogy – eddig soha nem tapasztalt összefogást éltünk meg a környék magyarságának színes sokféleségét magában foglaló ünnepünkön.Egy karácsonyt elővételező szentmisére gyűltünk össze. A hét év óta közösségünket hűségesen szolgáló Ágoston atyát búcsúztattuk, a szentmisét Kiss Barnabás püspöki delegátus atya mutatta be. A kápolnában lévő 50 széket eleve megtoldották vagy 15-20-szal, aztán kértünk még 15-öt, majd még 10-et, és az sem volt elég… A szomszédos kis kápolna is zsúfolásig megtelt lekes emberekkel. Magyar adventi és karácsonyi énekektől volt hangos a Bazilika altemploma. Hálával csordultig telt szívvel és mélyen meghatódva szeretnénk köszönetet mondani minden barátunknak és támogatónknak, az összetartozásnak ezért a váratlan, szép ünnepéért!Gyönyörű adventi szentmisénken jelen voltak a cserkészeink. Az agapén lelkesedésüket szétsugárzó betlehemes játékkal örvendeztettek meg minket. Velük együtt énekeltük a mindenki által jól ismert és szeretett karácsonyi dalainkat. A zsúfolásig telt terem, a gyermek-zsibongás, a roskadásig megrakott terített asztal mind-mind arról tanúskodott, hogy van jövőnk, mert az életünk közös Forrása képes összefűzni mindannyiunkat!Reménnyel telve, ezúton is szeretnénk köszönetet mondani mindenkinek, aki örömeinkben és gondjainkban melletünk állt, velünk ünnepelt!A Szt. 2012. augusztus: Öt részes, DVD-n is elérhető film készült az amerikai magyarság életéről, melyben washingtoni közösségünk is képviselteti magát
A Debrecen Televízió “Üzenem az otthoni hegyeknek” című, 5 részes dokumentum filmsorozatot készített az Amerikai Egyesült Államokban élő magyar közösségekről. A Duna Televízió által is sugárzott, művészi igényű alkotás azt mutatja be, hogyan és milyen formában őrzik az amerikai magyarok a nyelvüket, identitásukat, a több száz milliós, kontinensnyi méretű országban. A nézők az Egyesült Államok nyugati és keleti partján még meglévő, működő, közösségeket ismerhetik meg. Magyar házak, katolikus és református közösségek, vasárnapi iskolák, baráti csoportok, népi együttesek és cserkészcsapatok tagjai mondják el gondolataikat arról, hogy miként, és miért ragaszkodnak magyar gyökereikhez, őseik örökségéhez, a magyar nyelvhez és kultúrához.

2012. január: Bishop Székely about the real reasons for worldwide attacks against Hungary
Jesus Christ said, “If the world hates you, realize that it hated me first.” (John 15:18). These words are especially acute today, since our country has been under single fire from many all over the world Bishop János Székely writes.
What is the reason for this hatred? The real reason is the fact that our country has been promoting basic human values sought to be destroyed by many in our days.
The Hungarian Parliament has given our country a Fundamental Law starting with the name of God (Preamble), stating that embryonic and foetal life shall be subject to protection from the moment of conception (Freedom and Responsibility II) and that Hungary shall protect the institution of marriage as the union of a man and a woman (Foundation L). The Fundamental Law also states that the family is the basis of the nation’s survival and that the extent of contribution to satisfying community needs shall be determined in consideration of the costs of raising children (Freedom and Responsibility XXX). Obviously there are many in the world who dislike this definite statement of these basic human rights.
Moreover, the Hungarian Government has levied extra tax on banks. Naturally, it makes the lords of the financial world anxious lest the example should be followed by others.
This is the basic reason for the attacks against our country. Of course these reasons are not explicitly named, other, less significant complaints being brought up.
One of these accusations is the Law on Churches. The aim of this Law is to deprive business churches of church status. The reason is that in Hungary, unlike in many European countries, Church education, health and social institutions are granted State funding equal with the funding of similar State institutions, since they provide educational or health service for equal taxpayers. Therefore in our country several fake churches have been established, whose main purpose was to obtain State funds.
The new Law on Churches changes this situation. More precisely, it describes the requirements for any community to be able to obtain Church status (minimum membership of 1.000; minimum presence of 20 years in the country etc.). Any community not fulfilling these requirements will be absolutely free to continue their work; however, they will not be granted State funding for their institutions.
It is just natural that the Hungarian Parliament and the Government have also made some errors in their work. These included some – later amended – paragraphs of the Media Law, as well as some, perhaps unnecessary amendments of the Central Bank Law, which gave an opportunity for attacks. Similarly, it would have been more appropriate to make the agreement with the banks prior to issuing the rulings on final repayment.
However, the reason for the attack against our country is not this, but the basic values Hungary now represents.
The present Parliament has had to responsibly avail itself of the two-thirds majority with which it has been authorized by voters to act. It must bear and turn into actions this great responsibility and opportunity with humility and prudence. And it must make efforts at averting outside attacks with composure and sometimes ingenuity.
The foreign currency reserve of the Central Bank of Hungary amounts to almost half of the present state debt of our country, which the Central Bank will indeed utilize for financing the debt service if necessary. This means that even in this strong headwind Hungary can persist for some time.
It has often happened in history that the appearance of light has immediately been opposed by the appearance of the power of darkness. I wish all of us to become the sons of Light, the builders of a truer and more humane world.

“Az amerikai katolikus hierarchia részéről is akadt hathatós pártfogója a helyi magyar katolikus hitéletnek, és különösen is igaz ez 1956 után. Itt feltétlenül meg kell említenünk Philip Matthew Hannan (1913-2011), helyi születésű, későbbi magyarbarát püspök nevét, aki tanulmányait Rómában végezte, és a II. világháború alatt is Európában szolgált. Amikor 1956-ban Hannan-t a washingtoni érsekség segédpüspökévé szentelték, minden lehetséges módon támogatta a helyi katolikus közösséget (magyar ünnepeken rendszeresen ő misézett), amely ezt forró ragaszkodással viszonozta. Ez a kapcsolat egészen 1965-ig fontos volt a helyi magyar hitélet számára, amikor Hannan püspököt New Orleans 11. érsekévé nevezték ki, aki emiatt elköltözött.” (a teljes szöveget ld. Minden, a templomon belül történő pénzgyűjtés a Bazilika adminisztrációját illeti, tehát a mi szentmiséink alatt történő perselyezést is teljes összegében közvetlenül a szentmise után be kell szolgáltatnunk.
